Big News in the US Presidential Race

This morning John McCain announced his pick of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his Vice-Presidential running mate. This is a huge surprise to me! Most of the speculation over the past few weeks has centered on Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty and renegade 'Democratic' Senator Joe Lieberman. This choice is bold but risky. McCain could pick up support from democratic female voters who are disappointed that Hillary Clinton lost out the Democratic Nomination to Barack Obama and the fact that she is female surely makes this a historical Republican Ticket. On the downside her youth (44) and inexperience (1st term governor of a thinly populated state) could be seen as strikes against her. This announcement is going to make this race all the more interesting!
